PC-based NVRs

PC-based NVRs are linked to a PC that runs on a Window operating system. It requires a video capture card with 4, 8, 12, 16, 32 and up beyond 256 camera inputs. A Network Video Recorder (NVR) has the capability of capturing video from cameras (analog or digital) and record the video into a digital format. This format is then stored on the hard disk drive. The NVR software allows archiving, playback, live view, remote access, and a variety of other important functions. Other advantages of PC-based NVRs include ease of use and a variety of features and functions. It is also possible to add more cameras to PC-based NVRs as long as you add more video cards or extension cards depending on the manufacturer’s instructions. However, these NVRs can be more expensive than stand-alone NVRs.

Stand-Alone Hybrid NVRs

Unlike PC-based NVRs that run on Microsoft OS, Stand-alone NVRs run on Linux operating systems. Stand-alone NVRs do not possess as many features as PC-based NVRs but they are ideal for those who are not comfortable with PCs or in environments where the use of a PC is not practical or allowed. The latest models of stand-alone NVRs allow live view, remote access, camera control and a variety of other functions.
